Alicante airport is the busiest airport in Spain, providing International Access to the beautiful Communities of Murcia and Valencia.
There are two terminals at the airport, located one adjacent to the other. A new terminal is under construction and is due to be finished by early 2011. It will increase the annual airport capacity from 12 to 20 million passengers.
It is always best to have an understanding of the airport layout,

Terminal 1
Terminal 1 (styled as T1) has 38 check-in desks numbered 1 - 38, along with one for special baggage which is desk number 39. It includes 11 gates of which five have airbridges, which are the odd numbered gates, and nine baggage reclaim carousels. Currently, this terminal is operated by all airlines although Easy Jet and Ryan air use a mixture of the terminals.
The arrival hall is on the ground floor, where you will find many Car Hire booking desks, and some snack food outlets. Exiting from this area will give you access to the numerous coach stops and taxi’s. Across the road is the three storey car park where the car hire companies are based.

Terminal 2
Terminal 2 (styled as T2) has 14 check-in desks numbered 51 - 64, 6 gates (none have airbridges), and two baggage reclaim carousels. Easy Jet is the only airline that checks-in at this terminal, but sometimes this varies. It is adjacent to terminal 1.

Terminal 3
Terminal 3 (under construction) is a brand new terminal at Alicante Airport, and is due to open in early 2011. It will have 92 check-in desks, 40 gates, of which 16 will have airbridges and 14 baggage reclaim carousels. This terminal is to be adjacent to Terminal 1.

Luggage reclaim
If your luggage is missing, you need to fill in a form (which is also available in English, the good thing is that let the staff know where you are staying and they will get it to you. Don’t offer to collect they are obliged to get the luggage to you. (Normally the next day)
If all of your luggage and you declare a personal emergency then you can ask for a survival package. This will at least get you through 24 hrs, until your luggage arrives.
Car Hire collection/departure points
Alicante Airport has many car hire companies operating from within the terminal and in the multi storey car park opposite.
The operators that are in the terminal are situated within T1, in the arrivals hall.
The other operators are situated across the main road in the car park. The good thing is that all are within 5 minutes walk.
It is recommended that when landing for your driver/named hirer to go to the Car Hire book in desks and deal with the collection of the car, as queue’s can develop, especially in high season. Once the car is collected simply drive the car to the drop off/pick up point outside T1 or T2. (Make sure mobile phones are left switched on! As there is a possibility that over eager family members will not hear where the driver is picking up! Happened to me loads of stress and grief)
To get to the car hire operators walk outside or inside, into T1, and then simply down one flight of stairs to the arrival area of T1. (Takes about 5 mins walk)
There are some small eating areas in the arrival area in T1, but the main areas to eat are upstairs in departures. The normal fast food and coffee outlets are here, but be warned – pricey and also not open 24/7
The main bus/coach pickup area is right outside the main terminal (T1).
I have listed below the main air lines that fly from the UK to Alicante, please if you see that this needs updating let me know.

If you have arranged to travel from Alicante to Monte Pego you can of course hire your own car, or take a coach. If you plan ahead you can get airport transfers from about €150 per car full (4 max) each way! If like us you have five in your family then forget it!
When you depart the airport in your car follow the signs for Valencia and that will get you onto the main motorway. Follow my directions link. If you miss the exit simply go round the airport service road again and try again, only takes 2 minutes.
